New York City is the most populous city in the US state of New York and one of the most important metropolitan cities in the entire world; so much so in fact, that it has even been nicknamed the "Capital of the World". [1] The city is divided into five districts, or boroughs. They are: Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Staten Island.

In fiction[]

New York City is the most often-used setting in Marvel Comics publications. The majority of superhero teams that exist within the Marvel Universe are based out of New York City. The growing superhero community at large however, expanded its territories in more recent years thanks to the advent of the 50-State Initiative, which positioned one officially government-sanctioned superhero in one major city in every state in the United States.

In horror fiction, New York City is the base of operations for Ghost Rider, both Johnny Blaze and Danny Ketch. While Johnny Blaze was a more mobile adventurer than his younger sibling, there have been a multitude of Ghost Rider sightings throughout the borough of Manhattan. Danny Ketch on the other hand, was more rooted to his home town of Brooklyn.

Living vampire Michael Morbius was also based out of New York City and maintained several laboratories and safe houses throughout the five boroughs. In the Spider-Man animated series, Michael Morbius was a foreign exchange student who attended classes at Empire State University. Some of the more monstrous staff members employed by ESU include Professor Miles Warren, aka, the Jackel and Doctor Curtis Connors who, through his own scientific experiments, became a bipedal reptile called the Lizard.
